Grandpa Goes to Heaven....













 




Below is the obituary I wrote, it went out in the Victoria, Halletsville, and Houston Chronicle.

Willie Hlavac, age 85, went to be with the Lord on October 13th, 2011.


He was born March 14th, 1926, in Hallettsville, TX, to the late John and Veronika Hlavac. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 10, 1944 and served for over 9 years during WW II, and the Korean War. On November 6, 1954, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Butschek in Hallettsville, TX. Willie worked in Houston for Lansdowne Moody for over 40 years as a Ford tractor mechanic. He made friends for life, never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand. He was a devout Catholic, and served for over 52 years with the Knights of Columbus #4577, American Legion, and VFW. His passion in life was his family, his faith, and his love for flying.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of 57 years, his children, Carolyn and her husband Richard Roos, Barbara and her husband Danny Allcorn, Anthony and his wife Barbara Hlavac, and Michael and his wife Laura Hlavac; Grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband Steven Hurst, James and his wife Sarah Hlavac, Jennifer Spalding, and Christopher Hlavac; Great-grandchildren, Roxy Brianna, Steven Richard, and Bella Grace; Brother Lado Hlavac and Sister Agnes Holik. He is further survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Raymond, and Franklin Hlavac and sisters, Albina Hlavac, Annie Boehm, Alma Brosch, Valsta Holik and Mary Zappe.

A rosary will be held in Houston, TX at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in Hallettsville, TX at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monday, October 17, 2011 at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus #4577, 6320 Madden Lane, Houston, TX 77048 or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 400 East 5th Street, Hallettsville, TX 77964.

  1. Looks like a wonderful service. I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad I got the honor in meeting him, he was always such a character.
